Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Brenden Rice got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 33. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell at No. 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in the 78th overall pick, where Christian Haynes graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
MarShawn Lloyd slid further than he should have, and No. 112 is lovely value for the running back. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Mekhi Wingo in Round 5, Pick 12, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Brenden Rice in pick 208 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Garret Greenfield at pick No. 223 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaylan Ford in slot 229 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
