The real work happened on the phones. The Raiders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Raiders paired the rookies with proven help, Jahmyr Gibbs leading the way.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kalen King in pick 44. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Calen Bullock at No. 52 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at the 112th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Hart in pick No. 150. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Josh Proctor in Round 6, Pick 15, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A tidy little value on Steele Chambers in slot 234, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
