You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They are betting Sainristil proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with edge rusher still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 1 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Blake Fisher at Round 4, Pick 8 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Mike Sainristil in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in the 150th overall pick, with Javion Cohen worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
De'Corian Clark at pick 190 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Nathaniel Watson in No. 234, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
