The tape said wait; the Raiders did not. Chandler Morris went at pick 222, a good 230 picks before the board was ready. A mixed bag that lands at C.
On value alone, Winston Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. So much rides on Quinn Ewers that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Hit on Quinn Ewers and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Omarion Hampton in the 37th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Value with a capital V on Dylan Fairchild in the 68th pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Donovan Jackson in Round 3, Pick 9, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jake Majors in pick No. 106 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Deontae Lawson at slot 142 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at Round 6, Pick 3. A minor itch, scratched.
Carson Schwesinger in pick 212 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They robbed the room for Michael Taaffe here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Chandler Morris well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
