The Raiders went off the board in a big way for John Emery Jr., 241 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Drew Allar in Round 2, Pick 6 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Shemar Stewart at No. 69, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sebastian Castro in the 73rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Elijah Roberts at pick 105 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Tez Johnson in the 141st pick, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Luke Lachey in slot 185 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zy Alexander at No. 212 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take John Emery Jr. this early at Round 6, Pick 39. The roster fit checks out.
Jake Slaughter at the 224th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
