Start where it matters. The Raiders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They will need Fairchild to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Hadden steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 50 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at No. 77, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Cedric Gray at the 112th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had Kamal Hadden higher than the 150th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Isaiah Williams in pick No. 172 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Davis at slot 178 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Matthew Jones at Round 6, Pick 15, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mason Fairchild at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
