There is reaching, and then there is Isaiah Davis at the 233rd pick. The Raiders jumped the board by 60 and dared it to prove them wrong. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Justin Fields deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Christian Haynes at pick No. 76 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jackson in the 112th overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Michael Barrett in the 149th pick, miles early. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They went early on Ricky Pearsall in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Isaiah Davis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
