It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jaylen Wright in the 233rd overall pick, a good 187 spots before the room expected him.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In the 12th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in slot 44. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Jackson Powers-Johnson at par in Round 3, Pick 12, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tate Ratledge at pick 112 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ben Sinnott in No. 149 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ricky Pearsall at the 190th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylen Wright at the 233rd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
