You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The back end got a real overhaul. The Raiders paired the rookies with proven help, Chris Evans leading the way.
If Cooper DeJean and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
J.J. McCarthy in pick 44 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Jalen McMillan in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 107 with a little surplus value in Blake Fisher. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Mohamed Kamara went about where he belonged in the 112th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
