Somebody in slot 212 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 109 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The cost of the Rourke reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had cheaper options than Benjamin Morrison at the 37th pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kaleb Johnson in slot 68 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Kurtis Rourke in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 106 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Barrett Carter at Round 6, Pick 3 is a fall that decides a draft. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 212 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Robert Spears-Jennings at pick 216 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They will replay Seth McLaughlin at the 222nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
