Call it larceny. Smael Mondon Jr. sat on the board until the 212th overall pick, and the Raiders did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B.
McCoy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Cam Ward is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Matthew Golden at slot 68 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Darien Porter at par in No. 73, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a safety like Sebastian Castro reach Round 4, Pick 5 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wild overpay on Shemar Turner in pick No. 142, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Miles Frazier at the 178th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Jay Higgins at pick 216 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A big swing on Bru McCoy at the 222nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
