The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Isaiah Williams, slot 221, roughly 36 picks past where he belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a load in the middle. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on J.J. McCarthy at the 44th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Kingsley Suamataia here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jarvis Brownlee Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Marist Liufau at Round 5, Pick 11 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Daijun Edwards in pick 210 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaiah Williams in slot 221 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Elijah Jones at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Garret Greenfield went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
