Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Omarion Hampton got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at Round 4, Pick 20.
Whatever Cam Ward becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Reaching for Truss left real value on the table behind him.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Armand Membou at pick 65 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; DJ Campbell at the 69th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Tez Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Omarion Hampton at the 121st pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Sebastian Castro at slot 177 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Harold Perkins Jr. in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Ar'maj Reed-Adams was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 2, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Xavier Truss in pick 219 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
