The real work happened on the phones. The Raiders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The Umanmielen pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Grant pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They jumped the gun on Kenneth Grant, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 7: Princely Umanmielen for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Maxwell Hairston at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in No. 71, where Lander Barton graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Miller Moss at the 81st overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for J.C. Davis at pick 103 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Jaeden Roberts at par in slot 135, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Trey Zuhn III in the 167th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tony Grimes at No. 199 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
