There is conviction, and then there is this. The Raiders took Traeshon Holden a full 68 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Put together, it is a D-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Quinn Ewers is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
In the 19th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Walter Nolen. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Clay Webb. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Tyler Baron in Round 4, Pick 7 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Traeshon Holden at pick 135, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Marcus Mbow in slot 167, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jack Kiser went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
