They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Bo Nix is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Singer at that price is a win they earned. The Raiders indulged a want in Smith while a need in edge rusher, running back and other spots stayed open. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
If Frazier pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Bo Nix at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 12: Josh Newton for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, running back and other spots to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
A premium they did not need to pay, Junior Colson a notch or two before his time. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jonah Monheim in the 149th pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Miles Frazier in slot 190 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Dorian Singer in No. 233 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
