Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The Raiders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

Reaching for Ugwoegbu left real value on the table behind him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Berger steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 13
In slot 13 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
No edge and no loss on Amarius Mims in pick No. 21; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 42
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 74
Christian Haynes at pick 75 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 78
Christian Mahogany at the 77th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Max Melton · CB · rank 112
They paid sticker price for Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 11, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 123
A conviction pick on Sataoa Laumea at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 122
Kris Abrams-Draine in the 123rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 134
A tidy bit of business in No. 143, where Will Shipley graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.11 · Pick 147 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 147
A straight-up fair deal on Dallin Holker at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 185
Curtis Jacobs in the 190th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.1 · Pick 221 · David Ugwoegbu · OLB-EDGE · rank 250
Value said wait; David Ugwoegbu in pick No. 221 says they were not listening. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Jalen Berger · RB · rank 217
Value with a capital V on Jalen Berger in pick 231, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
