It is the swing that defines the weekend: Elic Ayomanor in the 19th pick, a good 53 spots before the room expected him. A F, plain and simple.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 19th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ollie Gordon II in Round 2, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Danny Stutsman at the 71st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jasheen Davis at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Dylan Fairchild in pick No. 135, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Hunter Wohler at pick No. 167, well ahead of any board in the building. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Tyler Batty at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
