Thirty-one other rooms let Cam Skattebo slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the 216th overall pick. Highway robbery.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Johnson lower, and that gap is the story. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in pick 6 with a little surplus value in Ashton Jeanty. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalen Milroe at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Jihaad Campbell in Round 3, Pick 4 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tez Johnson at pick No. 73 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Luke Kandra at the 106th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A running back of that caliber at the 142nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a safety like Rod Moore reach No. 178 and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Clay Webb in slot 212; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cam Skattebo at pick No. 216 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jordan Hancock in Round 7, Pick 6 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
