Somebody in pick No. 234 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Josh Proctor, the No. 187 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The veteran additions, Vita Vea chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kris Jenkins in the 48th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Christian Haynes went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Max Melton at slot 112 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jamari Thrash in the 116th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Abrams-Draine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cam Hart in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 153 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, Edefuan Ulofoshio went about where he belonged in the 157th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Steal is underselling it; Jaheim Bell at the 167th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a safety like Kitan Oladapo reach No. 190 and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Josh Proctor in pick No. 234 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Circle this one: Zakhari Franklin at slot 251 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
