The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Conner Weigman, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
They will need Spencer to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That Crenshaw-Dickson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
Conner Weigman at the 7th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They jumped the gun on Dontay Corleone, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in pick 71, where Drew Allar graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jamaree Caldwell. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Thor Griffith at Round 5, Pick 7 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Malik Spencer at slot 199, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
