You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
Everything downstream of Shedeur Sanders depends on Shedeur Sanders, and the building knows it. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Styles. Reaching for Sanders left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get the face of the franchise, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Emeka Egbuka in Round 2, Pick 7 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy bit of business in the 103rd pick, where Blake Miller graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a running back like Tahj Brooks reach slot 167 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took DJ Campbell at par in pick No. 199, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
