Somebody in Round 6, Pick 41 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Everything downstream of Cam Ward depends on Cam Ward, and the building knows it. If McCord pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 37th overall pick with a little surplus value in Tate Ratledge. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Jermari Harris, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Kyle McCord in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Colston Loveland at the 106th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
TreVeyon Henderson at Round 5, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ryan Fitzgerald in pick No. 212 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Cam Skattebo in No. 216 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Jeffrey Bassa still on the board at pick 222. It adds depth where they could use a little.
