Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kalel Mullings got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at the 218th overall pick. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The cost of the Milroe reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get an every-down engine for the run game at fair value. A real need, handled.
Value said wait; Jalen Milroe in pick 37 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Malaki Starks in pick No. 68 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Jihaad Campbell in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tez Johnson slipping to Round 4, Pick 6 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
TreVeyon Henderson at No. 144 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ricky White III at the 182nd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Miles Frazier at the 214th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kalel Mullings at No. 218 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
They went early on Clay Webb in pick 224, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
