The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Cam Ward, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Mauigoa left real value on the table behind him. However the rest shakes out, Pierce at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Quinshon Judkins in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Cam Skattebo in pick No. 68, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Andrew Mukuba in the 73rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Savion Williams at the 107th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Hollin Pierce all the way to Round 5, Pick 5, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Ricky White III in slot 182 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty Hamilton in pick 214, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Miles Frazier in the 218th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Francisco Mauigoa at slot 224 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
