Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent Round 6, Pick 15 on Matthew Jones, a name the board had a full 43 spots lower.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Mayes at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Graham Barton at the 44th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Christian Haynes in pick 62; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Braden Fiske a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Spencer Rattler at slot 93 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Beaux Limmer at pick No. 112 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andrew Coker well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Akheem Mesidor in pick No. 188, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Matthew Jones at the 190th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zion Logue in Round 6, Pick 36 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
BJ Mayes in pick 234 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
