It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jaxson Dart in the 30th overall pick, a good 109 spots before the room expected him. The final tally is a middling C+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Paul Jr.. Everything downstream of Jaxson Dart depends on Jaxson Dart, and the building knows it. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
So much rides on Jaxson Dart that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 30 they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
They barely believed it either: Jihaad Campbell still on the board at the Round 3 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tez Johnson in Round 4, Pick 5. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in pick No. 142, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Willie Lampkin in pick 178. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Chris Paul Jr. at No. 212 is a fall that decides a draft. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Brandon Adams in Round 6, Pick 41 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Roc Taylor in pick No. 222, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
