The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Omarion Hampton, pick No. 68, roughly 53 picks past where he belonged. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The cost of the Howard reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A slide stopped in pick No. 37, with Emeka Egbuka worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Omarion Hampton all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
TreVeyon Henderson in slot 73 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Will Howard in the 96th overall pick says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Elijah Arroyo in No. 134 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 139 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had cheaper options than Willie Lampkin at Round 5, Pick 25, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Seth McLaughlin at the 178th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Jordan Hancock here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 216 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nohl Williams. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
