It is the swing that defines the weekend: Drew Allar in pick 7, a good 47 spots before the room expected him. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Everything downstream of Drew Allar depends on Drew Allar, and the building knows it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Getting Emmanwori where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left tight end open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drew Allar in No. 7, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Walter Nolen in the 33rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Elic Ayomanor in the 39th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quincy Riley in pick No. 52 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Donovan Jackson at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Jasheen Davis in slot 103 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in No. 135: Nick Emmanwori for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid a round early for Marcus Mbow in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jarquez Hunter at Round 7, Pick 7 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
