Nobody else had Zy Alexander anywhere near pick No. 167. The Raiders did, by 54 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
They have staked the next five years on Conner Weigman, which is the only story that really matters here. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Walter Nolen at the 33rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Elic Ayomanor in pick 39, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Clay Webb in pick No. 52 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trevor Etienne at the 71st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jasheen Davis well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Nick Emmanwori higher than the Round 5 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A real head-scratcher, Zy Alexander in Round 6, Pick 7 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Armand Membou at par in the 199th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
