The Raiders cashed the board's mistake on Skattebo: B.

Thirty-one other rooms let Cam Skattebo slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at pick No. 182. Highway robbery. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The cost of the Ewers reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · Luther Burden III · WR · rank 14
In pick No. 15 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Quinn Ewers · QB · rank 96
A wild overpay on Quinn Ewers in pick 37, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 43
No drama and no debate, Matthew Golden went about where he belonged in the 45th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 40
Jihaad Campbell in No. 68 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Xavier Watts · S · rank 46
Xavier Watts at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.6 · Pick 107 · Jermari Harris · CB · rank 100
They did well to land Jermari Harris in Round 4, Pick 6, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.7 · Pick 144 · Dorian Strong · CB · rank 173
Dorian Strong in slot 144 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 105
A running back of that caliber at the 182nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Joshua Gray · OG · rank 179
You do not let an offensive lineman like Joshua Gray reach Round 6, Pick 39 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 187
Jaylen Reed in the 218th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.8 · Pick 224 · Karene Reid · LB · rank 192
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Karene Reid in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
