After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Steele reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
Jayden Daniels at pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 44 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Leonard Taylor III in the 112th overall pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Nehemiah Pritchett in pick No. 145, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Omar Speights in the 189th pick; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Christian Jones at No. 190 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Carson Steele in Round 7, Pick 14 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
