Somebody in the 204th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Jamari Thrash, the No. 91 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The veteran additions, DaVon Hamilton chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Bo Nix at the 44th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 26 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Xavier Worthy at pick No. 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Mason McCormick was still sitting there in No. 127, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Tykee Smith still on the board at slot 129. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at pick 147. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kamal Hadden at pick No. 174 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Jamari Thrash here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Nathan Thomas all the way to slot 210, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylan Ford in Round 7, Pick 1 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Michael Barrett in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Daijahn Anthony in No. 227, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Miyan Williams at the 246th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
