There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Raiders started one anyway for Stone Handy, 114 picks ahead of schedule. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Higgins that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Quinn Ewers well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kaleb Johnson at the 68th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tate Ratledge in the 73rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Joshua Farmer at pick 107 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Xavier Scott in No. 142 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Ty Hamilton in Round 6, Pick 3, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Stone Handy at the 204th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Thor Griffith in No. 212 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jay Higgins in pick No. 216 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A real head-scratcher, Max Brosmer in the 222nd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
