The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Jimmy Horn Jr., 90 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Cam Ward gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in Round 2, Pick 5, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in No. 107, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Barrett Carter at pick 135 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Willie Lampkin this early at pick No. 144. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Jimmy Horn Jr. in pick 218 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Addison West in the 224th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
