Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Kalen King, the No. 44 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 78th overall pick.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th pick they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; J.J. McCarthy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kalen King in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tory Horton at No. 114 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Antwaun Powell-Ryland. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Miles Frazier went about where he belonged in pick No. 192. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: DeWayne Carter still on the board at pick 235. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
