Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent the Round 6 slot on Trey Wedig, a name the board had a full 98 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
The Hampton steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
They let Omarion Hampton come to them and pounced at No. 34. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Elic Ayomanor in pick No. 65 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Maxwell Hairston in the 97th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joshua Gray well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R Mason Thomas in Round 5, Pick 1 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Xavier Nwankpa at pick No. 178 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Wedig in pick 212, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at Round 7, Pick 2, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Julian Fleming in slot 217 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
