The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The cost of the Robinson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Fuaga value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a long-term answer under center, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Somehow Taliese Fuaga was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 77 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Layden Robinson in the 112th overall pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing James Williams in pick 150. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They went early on Gabe Hall in slot 190, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Dwight McGlothern at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
