The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The cost of the Allen reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wilson.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Kris Jenkins at the 44th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Malik Washington at the 113th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kitan Oladapo in slot 174 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A slide stopped in pick 190, with Roger Rosengarten worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Andrew Raym at pick No. 200 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Isaiah Williams come to them and pounced at pick 221. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Erick All. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
