The trade table was a mismatch, and the Raiders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They will need McLaughlin to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Grant.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Kenneth Grant at the 37th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Dylan Sampson in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Demetrius Knight Jr. at pick No. 73. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A tidy bit of business in pick 107, where Ozzy Trapilo graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dont'e Thornton Jr.. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Jordan Hancock higher than Round 6, Pick 40, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Seth McLaughlin in Round 7, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
