Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent No. 103 on Azareye'h Thomas, a name the board had a full 116 spots lower.
So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Conerly Jr..
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Omarion Hampton in the 39th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Josh Conerly Jr. at No. 71 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Azareye'h Thomas at pick No. 103, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tyler Baron at Round 5, Pick 7 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Armand Membou this early at pick 167. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Akheem Mesidor at the 199th pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
