Start where it matters. The Raiders took Cam Ward to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simon. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Emeka Egbuka slipping to slot 37 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in the 68th pick with a little surplus value in Dylan Sampson. It fills a real need, too.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 108 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taking O'Donnell Fortune in No. 143 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Cody Simon at Round 6, Pick 4 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jaylen Reed at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had Addison West higher than pick 215, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Donovan Edwards in slot 222 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
