The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Cam Skattebo, the Round 7 slot, roughly 108 picks past where he belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They are betting Ewers proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinn Ewers in the 49th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kaleb Johnson in No. 68 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kamari Ramsey at slot 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Deontae Lawson at pick No. 95. A minor itch, scratched.
Luke Kandra at the 107th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 8: Maxwell Hairston for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Jack Bech still on the board at the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Quinshon Judkins was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Joshua Gray in slot 170 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in No. 171 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Seth McLaughlin at Round 6, Pick 4 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Miles Frazier at pick No. 206 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Davison Igbinosun at pick 212, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Jay Higgins at the 216th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Steal is underselling it; Cam Skattebo at the 222nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Nwankpa at No. 247 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
