The trade table was a mismatch, and the Raiders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
On value alone, Barton makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Kool-Aid McKinstry and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 77th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in the 113th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Isaiah Adams at No. 147 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 19 with a little surplus value in Theo Johnson. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Kitan Oladapo in No. 190 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Andrew Raym in pick 221. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Jordan Magee was still sitting there in slot 231, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
