Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Sam Hartman at the 232nd pick is 30 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
With edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Fiske value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Jordan Morgan at par in pick 43, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
A straight-up fair deal on Tate Ratledge at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in slot 148, with Jaheim Bell worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Braden Fiske in the 189th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Sam Hartman in the 232nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
