It is the swing that defines the weekend: Sam Hartman in the 210th overall pick, a good 73 spots before the room expected him. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Coleman.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 50 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keon Coleman in the Round 2 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Bullard at Round 2, Pick 21 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Blake Corum, who had no business lasting to slot 97. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Justin Eboigbe slipping to the 160th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Johnny Dixon in the 170th pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at slot 210. The roster fit checks out.
