Hard to follow the map here. The Texans bypassed running back, edge rusher and other spots to take Khyree Jackson at the 121st pick, a spot they had covered. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Every board in the league had Milroe lower, and that gap is the story.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Walker. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing T'Vondre Sweat in Round 3, Pick 32. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They bypassed pressing needs at running back, edge rusher and other spots to take Khyree Jackson, a defensive back that was not the priority.
A surprising call. With running back, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent the 124th overall pick on Beau Brade, a defensive back they were not short of.
They read the board right and Devontez Walker was the payoff at pick 158. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in slot 240, where Ricky White graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Jalen Milroe in pick No. 242, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
