Minnesota Vikings

A passer of the future in Maye, and a D, for the Vikings.

Future B+

The Vikings lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Watts reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Newton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In slot 3 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 42
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at pick 42 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 111
They took Matt Goncalves at par in No. 109, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 123
They let Josh Newton come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.20 · Pick 156 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 163
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Davis. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 174
Dwight McGlothern at pick No. 179 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Eric Watts · DL-EDGE · rank 203
Eric Watts at the 190th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
