Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will need Bishop to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Hit on Kool-Aid McKinstry and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 19
In No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 53
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at the 50th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 59
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Jacob Cowing · WR · rank 100
Jacob Cowing at pick No. 97 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 130
Cole Bishop at slot 108 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 141
They took Jaheim Bell at par in pick 140, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 159
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 157
A tidy bit of business in the 170th pick, where Ty'Ron Hopper graded well above the range. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.1 · Pick 221 · Omar Brown · S · rank 201
Omar Brown at pick 221 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.20 · Pick 240 · Taulia Tagovailoa · QB · rank 244
No edge and no loss on Taulia Tagovailoa in Round 7, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
