You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will need Bishop to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Hit on Kool-Aid McKinstry and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at the 50th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Jacob Cowing at pick No. 97 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cole Bishop at slot 108 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Jaheim Bell at par in pick 140, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in the 170th pick, where Ty'Ron Hopper graded well above the range. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Omar Brown at pick 221 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Taulia Tagovailoa in Round 7, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
