Somebody in pick 214 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 105 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Shedeur Sanders at pick No. 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Derrick Harmon was the payoff at No. 37. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 68 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board fumbled Xavier Watts all the way to No. 73, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Savion Williams still on the board at Round 5, Pick 5. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tyler Cooper in pick 182 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at the 214th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Jeffrey Bassa here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Somehow Connor Colby was still sitting there in the 224th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
